Printed interior design in libraries – STAR WARS™ Reads-Day in Mediothek Krefeld





In addition to its competence in coating graphic media, NESCHEN Coating can look back on decades of successful history as the market leader in the field of book protection and book repair. Our partners in the book protection sector distribute NESCHEN products to libraries and archivists worldwide. In recent years modern libraries have increasingly changed their character – from a classical reading room to an intellectual meeting centre with live events such as readings, poetry slams or open house events. For this reason graphic media have become increasingly important for the attractive design of interiors in libraries in recent years. Digital printing offers planners and interior designers cost-effective ways to create worlds of experience for libraries, and library staff also have the opportunity to advertise temporary events in a way that attracts attention. From our German distribution partner FILMOLUX we received a perfect example of a successful staging of an event with digital print media.

In 2017 the Mediothek in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, once again takes part in the “Star Wars™ Reads Day” the international action day for libraries, bookshops and schools. The Reading and Activities Day which originated in the USA was brought to Germany, Austria and Switzerland by Dorling Kindersley in 2013. Since then fast spacecraft, cool droids and brave adventurers thrill young and older fans in the Krefeld Media Library once a year live and in the countless printed media about Star Wars™.
Experience from the past years has shown that this special day cannot be announced early enough and above all not creatively enough. For this reason the head of the Media Library contacted the FILMOLUX field service and asked for support in the conception and production of an eye-catching advertising campaign on the premises of the Media Library. In addition various displays and signposts were to be replaced or renewed throughout the entire building.

Together with a design agency and a printing partner from the customer base, FILMOLUX realised the entire communication in the media library for the action day – from the first idea to the installation of the advertising material. In addition, various displays were exchanged and redesigned, various central points in the media library were prominently equipped with glass and floor stickers. The registration in the building was signposted with floor stickers starting right at the main entrance of the building.
